Senior Mine Tailings Engineer

Responsibilities:

- Own the geotechnical tailings plan for the site
- Design all long-range tailings deposition and mass balance plans. Is responsible for site-based research and assists with specific project management
- Influences the operating budget within tailings operations and various capital project budgets
- Responsible for directing the work of a number of specialized consultants and approving design work
- Develop and maintain long range tailings plans
- Develop and maintain tailings model
- Review technical parameters influencing tailings deposition and storage
- Develop operational research initiatives to optimize present tailings deposition
- Research representative on industry tailings research initiatives
- Management of assigned projects within the tailings area
- Contact with Mine Planning Team(internal), industry sponsored research bodies (CONRAD), Shell research groups (CRC)
- Conduct engineering reviews of all designs
- Request External experts review and provide technical input as required
- Responsible for all contractors under tailings engineering supervision
- Responsible for submissions to regulatory authorities (e.g. Dam Safety Branch)


Requirements:

- Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full time basis for anyone other than current employer
- No "fly in, fly out" option is offered with this position. Relocation to Fort McMurray is required
- BS, Geology/Mine Engineering/Civil Engineering
- Proficiency in English, both written and verbal
- Minimum of 10 Years relevant tailings experience; slurry deposition or related industry / oil sands experience an asset
- Current APEGGA certification or application/transfer of certification is in progress
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational and leadership skills
- Ability to work in a flexible team environment
- Computer skills and a familiarity with common business and engineering software (Vulcan or any other modeling software)
- Good task management and reporting skills
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license
