| Instructor, Advanced Family English Job Title:Instructor, Advanced Family English Reports to:ELL Coordinator Start Date:September 13th, 2010 Wage:$29.00 probationary End Date:December 17th, 2010 Hours:8 hrs/week Job Location:Church of Christ92nd Ave, Grande Prairie Work Schedule:9 – 12 pmMonday & Wednesday Job Summary Instructing a multi-cultural class of adult ESL learners who range from CLB level 6-10, you will be responsible for creating a safe and interactive environment for students wanting to improve their comprehension of the English language. Using the resources provided to you by the ELL Coordinator, you will plan lessons, administer and grade tests and exams, and complete formative evaluations to map student progress. In addition, you will submit monthly reports to the ELL Coordinator highlighting the overall success and/or challenges of the class and making suggestions for improvement where noted. A strong team player with great communication and interpersonal skills you offer support and knowledge to both our ESL learners and also other Family English Instructors and staff. Responsibilities Under the direction and supervision of the ELL Coordinator you will be responsible for: · Planning weekly class activities · Delivering lessons that cater to and challenge students at different CLB levels and with varying strengths in the English language (reading, writing, listening, speaking, and comprehension) · Ensuring all materials are prepared in advance · Setting up tables and chairs in classroom · Ensuring class is cleaned up and left as you found it · Administering formative and summative student assessments and evaluations · Providing monthly reports to the ELL Coordinator · Promoting an interactive and culturally sensitive learning environment · Planning activities that celebrate learners’ achievements Educational Requirements · High School Diploma · TESOL/TEFL Certificate · Post Secondary Certification in English/Education preferred. Will consider experience in lieu of education. Required Skills & Experience · Strong interpersonal skills · Patience and compassion · Great sense of humour · Strong command of the English language · Great communication skills · Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines · 2 years of ESL teaching experience Working Conditions Classes are held at the Church of Christ. Light lifting is required to set up and take down tables and chairs for class. The Council advocates a friendly and respectful environment for both learners and staff and adheres to the codes of both Alberta Employment Standards and Human Rights.
