Communications Coordinator/Graphic Designer

In this fast-paced role as the Communications Coordinator/Graphic Designer, you will assist in the development, co-ordination and design of varying communications projects and initiatives for the purpose of conveying relevant and timely information to Merit Member companies and their employees. You will also be responsible for fostering a strong and positive web presence while developing strategies for moving forward into electronic communications.

Major Responsibilities:
• Design and layout newsletters: News of Merit, Alberta Construction Scene, MerCon Messenger
• Assist in planning, design and execution of electronic communications programs and strategies
• Support and maintain website
• Increase effectiveness of website and enhance the user experience
• Update web content to ensure information is up-to-date, accurate and relevant to intended audiences
• Identify, investigate and provide recommendations for the application of new technologies that support communications and ultimately the core business goals of the company
• Provide marketing advice, recommendations, and implementation strategies on the appropriate use of electronic communication formats
• Coordinate the delivery of email/fax campaigns
• Design advertisements, collateral, promotional items, PowerPoint presentation templates, signage, headers, etc.
• Assist in coordination, writing and editing of newsletters: MeritTalk, News of Merit, Alberta Construction Scene, MerCon Messenger and other newsletters/articles.
• Order promotional materials, business cards (design/redesign, if necessary)
• Uphold confidentiality, visual identity and branding
• Perform other duties as assigned

Experience:
• Exceptional skills and experience in desktop graphic design and layout
• Experience with a variety of multimedia formats including the web and PowerPoint presentations
• Website development and email marketing experience
• Experience in a communications/marketing role including writing, editing, graphic design, website maintenance, marketing, and project management
• Experience balancing conflicting priorities, working independently as well as collaboratively
• Experience communicating, marketing, and designing for a variety of audiences: understanding association goals and key messages and using both in practice

Required Skills:
• Strong computer-application skills required: Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign website layout applications
• Superior skills updating and maintaining web pages using a Content Management System
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Editorial, copywriting and proof-reading skills
• Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills, with the ability to provide creative solutions with enthusiasm as well as quality customer service
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines
• Excellent attention to detail
• Project management skills
