| Superintendent Reports To: Site Manager Education Requirements: Reading, writing, and comprehension skills normally acquired through completion of high school, and at least five-years experience supervising a construction crew and working in Heavy Civil construction. Position Summary: On-site supervision of Assistant Superintendents, Forepersons, and all craft personnel (e.g. carpenters, equipment operators, laborers) and their activities to ensure a safe, productive, and quality job is attained and costs are controlled in the particular construction discipline (grading, structures, installation, electrical, tower wiring). Schedules labor, materials, tools, equipment and subcontractors within work discipline to effectively utilize all resources; and works with specifications and contract requirements. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Must have a valid driver license and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record (MVR). Ability to supervise a large number of employees. Thorough knowledge of tools and equipment uses and limitations. Good communication skills to deal with owners and employees. Possess a solid understanding of job costing. Relocation to community of project site is required. Grading Specifics: The Grading Superintendent focuses on the completion of roads to access the wind turbines through the following tasks: manages storm water plans and implement accordingly; contacts land owners to establish an extensive working relationship; discovers endangered species (plants or animals) in the area; partners with Installation Superintendent by clearing areas for the assembly of rotors, and assists when delivery trucks become immovable; work closely with concrete supervision relating to excavation of foundations. i.e.: depth of foundation excavation, width of foundation excavation; completes final grading of entire site; and responsible for punch list development and final completion. Ability to read and understand prints and contract documents. Structure Specifics: The Structures Superintendent focuses on the completion of concrete foundations for wind turbines and their associated substations through the following tasks: works closely with grading supervision relating to excavation of foundations; works closely with subcontractors such as rebar and electrical to coordinate their scope of work into the foundations; works closely with Ready Mix Plant to schedule materials and trucks as needed; schedules delivery of materials (rebar, anchor rods, template and embed rings); works closely with suppliers for timely delivery with no delays; schedules all foundation work to be completed on time and within budget; and communicates with inspectors to deliver a quality product to the owners. Installation Specifics: The Installation Superintendent focuses on the erection of wind turbines through the following tasks: Crane inspections and verification of the calibration of tool settings; contracts third party to provide climbing training for crews; verifies the documentation of each employee’s successful completion of the training; provides search and rescue training for crews; verifies training through observing each employee perform the task; and designs critical picks for cranes. Demonstrates experience with mobile cranes and the ability to read and understand load charts and crane manuals. Previous experience with crane loads over 40 tons. Tower Wiring focus: The Tower Wiring Superintendent will focus on the directing of the interior cabling system installations of wind turbines through the following tasks: verifying that the cabling tool settings are calibrated on a daily basis before the start of tasks; verify that the correct cable “die” sets are available for a specific OEM machine; contracts with a third party to provide necessary climbing training for crews; verifies each employee’s successful completion of the training; administrates required training days prior to start of work on the turbine to be constructed specific to that site. This training will be a combination of the OEM manuals, Borea “Best Practices” manuals, and Blattner standard operating procedures. Demonstrates experience with 34.5 kV down tower cabling installations, splices, terminations, and final required functionality tests. Demonstrates experience with installations and terminations between the OEM controller/VPM and “low side” of the pad mount transformers. Provide training, mentoring, and coaching of varied levels of experienced electricians; pertaining to down tower wiring. Knows and understands the required federal and state electrical codes. | |
